The International Kolkata Book Fair saw a special initiative by Assam Publication Board recently which saw commemoration of Sudha kantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika by organising his birth centenary.

“Sudha kantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika belongs not only to Assam, West Bengal, or India, he is, in the truest sense, a global artist. The melody of humanism and the harmony that transcends boundaries remain the essence of his creative philosophy,” remarked Tridib Chatterjee, secretary of the Publishers and Booksellers Guild, Kolkata.

Mr Chatterjee expressed these thoughts while speaking as a distinguished guest at the memorial event organised by Assam Publication Board in honour of Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary at the 49th International Kolkata Book Fair. He also fondly recalled his personal encounters with Dr Hazarika and the delightful experiences he had during visits to the Assam Book Fair, Guwahati.
